Greg Houdyshell

Chief of Police

The Warrenton Police Department is staffed by 22 professional men and women. Their mission is to create a safe environment for residents and visitors of Warrenton to live, work and play. This mission is accomplished through rigorous enforcement of Municipal, State and Federal laws. More importantly, though, the Department’s officers endeavor to involve the community in the law enforcement function. Officers are encouraged to make personal, positive, contact with citizens and visitors whenever it is feasible. Building and maintaining relationships within the community is the key to success for the Warrenton Police Department.

Explorer Post 9111

Our Law Enforcement Explorer Post was established in 2011. The Exploring Program, which is under the umbrella of the Boy Scouts of America, provides youth ages 14-21 with an opportunity to learn about, and participate in law enforcement. The Post meets twice a month at City Hall. Police Officer advisors provide training to the Explorers. Training topics include, patrol functions, traffic stops, traffic direction, first aid and many other aspects of law enforcement. The Explorer Post helps out with community functions as part of their regular duties. If you, or someone 14-21 years of age and a graduate of the eighth grade, are interested in this program please contact us at 636-456-3535 or contact a School Resource Officer.

Ride Along Program

In 2012 the Police Department established a civilian ride along program. This program provides an opportunity for individuals to observe a Warrenton Police officer on patrol. Participants ride with the officer in their patrol car and get a first hand look at the daily operation of the Warrenton Police Department. Scheduling is flexible. To obtain a ride along application please stop by the Police Department, or you can download one by clicking here.

School Resource Officers and Detectives

In addition to basic patrol functions the Police Department also provides three school resource officers to the Warren County R-III School District. These officers are responsible for law enforcement within the schools of the district. They also teach safety awareness classes to students and staff. Our Criminal Investigation Division is staffed by two detectives. The Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for conducting investigations into serious crimes committed within the City of Warrenton. Our detectives would be happy to provide safety presentations to businesses and groups. Contact us at 636-456-3535 to discuss your ideas.

The Warrenton Police Department is constantly looking at new ways to improve law enforcement in our community.Your suggestions and comments are always welcomed.
