About the Process
This new Comp Plan will be a practical and visionary roadmap, expressing Warrenton’s values and vision for the next 20 years. The Comp Plan will serve as a bridge through time, spanning different City Councils and administrations. It is both far-sighted and continually maintained. In short, the Comp Plan is a guide for managing change.
This process will solicit feedback from residents and stakeholder groups regarding community issues, needs and growth and development policies to inform the creation of alternative futures, or “What if Scenarios”. Community assessment of those “scenarios” will help inform the development of a final “preferred” direction that describes how the community might develop by 2035. This website describes the variety of ways for the community to be involved, allowing participants to choose the length and depth of participation.
What Happens Over the Next Year?
This is a big process! We are several months into a year long process to lay out a vision for what we want Warrenton to be in the future and choose what path we take to get there. To make it manageable, we’ve broken it down into four phases.
The first phase, “Foundation of Facts,” began in January 2015; the second phase, “Visioning & Community Needs,” was completed in June 2015; the third phase, “Forecast the Future” is where we are now and the fourth phase, “Formulate a Fit”, the Comprehensive Plan itself, will begin during the winter of 2015/2016.
