Snow Removal
Snow Preparation Procedures
Snow removal crews will be put into service by determination of the Director of Public Works Department and Street Supervisor.
- Snow removal will begin when 1 to 3 inches of snow has accumulated and the temperature indicates there will be no melting.
- Snow removal efforts will be ongoing during the event and will continue until all streets in the City are cleared.
- Please be aware that snow may accumulate in piles in front of mailboxes, especially in smaller courts and cul-de-sacs.
- It is suggested that shoveling of driveways be delayed until after the snow plows have been through due to the accumulation created by the plow. If you must shovel your driveway prior to the snow plowing, shovel snow to the sides of the driveway instead of the street which will help to reduce the accumulation created by the plow. Removal of snow accumulated by plowing at the end of driveways is the property owner’s responsibility.
Snow Routes
Snow Routes are indicated by blue and white signs along the side of the road.
- When a significant snowfall is present, the City will begin plowing the Snow Routes first to allow access for major roadways and emergency vehicles. Depending on wind conditions, temperature, type of snow (wet or powdery), and depth of snow, these Snow routes will be repeated as necessary to keep streets passable before secondary streets are plowed. Passable is not considered bare pavement.
- After the snow routes are passable, plowing will continue to lesser streets that provide better access to the higher traveled streets. Secondary streets are plowed. Lastly, cul-de-sacs and dead end streets are plowed.
Snow Route Parking Ordinance
Warrenton City Code Title iii, Chapter 395.060 Schedule VIII, SNOW ROUTES, States: It shall be unlawful to permit any motor vehicle to remain parked upon said streets and, after proper notification by a member of the Police Department of the City of Warrenton, Missouri, any owner or operator failing to remove such parked motor vehicle shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and said vehicle shall be towed at the owner’s expense. - Walton Street from South Morgan Street to Kuhl Avenue
- All of Kuhl Avenue
- Lakeview Street beginning at Highway 47 to Westbrook Drive
- All of Westbrook Drive between Lakeview Street and Canterberry Lane
- All of Warren Avenue between Canterberry Lane and Roy Street
- All of Roy Street between Warren Avenue and Vosholl Avenue
- All of Vosholl Avenue between Roy Street and Highway 47
- All of Wabash Street
- All of Ashland Avenue between Steinhagen Road and Highway 47
- All of Powell Avenue between Old Highway 40 and Niehuss Street
- All of Steinhagen Road
- All of Morgan Street from Oak Street to Warrior Avenue
- All of Worthington Drive
- All of Canterbury Drive
- All of Fairgrounds Road
- Pinckney Street from Truesdale City limits to Warrior Avenue
- All of Warrior Avenue
- All of Market Street
- All of Southside Avenue

The Police Department of the City of Warrenton shall make every effort to notify the owner of any vehicle parked in the emergency Snow Routes to remove vehicle. After the Police Department have exhausted all avenues of contact and the vehicle is not removed, the vehicle will be towed away to allow street crews to efficiently clear streets of snow. If a vehicle is towed, it is up to the vehicle owner to pay for the towing expenses and any other expenses incurred from the towing of the vehicle.
Icy Conditions
Chemical application will be determined based on the following criteria and priority:
- Main collector streets including snow routes
- Streets with hills o Difficult intersections – stop lights and stop signs
- Major residential roads
How to Properly Clear Your Driveway
Reminder! Take extra precautions when it snows.
When a significant snowfall is present, the City will begin plowing the Snow Routes first to allow access for major roadways and emergency vehicles. Depending on conditions, these routes will be repeated as necessary to keep streets passable before secondary streets are plowed.
As you face the street, shovel snow on the left of your driveway. This will ensure that the amount of snow that is pushed back into your driveway by the snow plows is minimal.
Avoid parking any vehicles on the street so the Public Works Department can effectively clear the streets. If a car is left on the street, it may be subject to towing. If a vehicle is towed, it is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to pay for all towing expenses. Basketball hoops and other obstructions must be removed from the street in time for plowing
